T-99 announce spring 2015 clubtour and return with "The Various Sounds of T-99"

18-12-2014

Good question for a popquiz: "Which Dutch band performed over 600x worldwide, shared the stage with the likes of Chuck Berry, Dr. John, Los Lobos and Little Feat, recorded a record with Dave Gonzales of The Paladins and are considered to be the founders of the alternative rootsrock?" Thumbs up for the one with the right answer: T-99.

The Amsterdam trio consisting of singer/guitarist Mischa, singer/drummer Martin and upright bassist Donné managed to develop into one of the most remarkable and influential band around. This was considered as such abroad, not on their home-turf. Across NL's borders T-99 is the band that blew away the so-called roots scene, injecting their brand with rock. And surf. And blues. And jazz, country, folk, bluegrass, rock & roll, punk, soul and Eastern-European music.

So, music of bastards of the purest form, ideal for movies of the Coen Brothers and Tarantino or as a soundtrack of traditional barbershops. The four albums that are releases between 1999 - 2007 are unique. Unpolished, atmospheric and crossing musical boundaries. Timeless as it's music is, the world keeps turning. Families, kids, other music endeavors.

From that moment T-99 holds still. No quarrels; the priorities after 11 years lay elsewhere for now. Mischa joins Cuban Heels, Donné performs alongside Martha Jane Settler and Martin takes the drum-throne with Maison du Malheur. In the four years T-99 are fridged, rootsmusic becomes hip. The Black Keys, C.W. Stoneking, Daniel Norgren, Benjamin Booker and Valerie June score worldwide with a sound that remembers of T-99.

Fan and zZz-drummer Björn Ottenheim organizes the yearly Sleazefest, a festival where numerous bands perform who employ a similar style or approach as T-99. And what's more fun to reach out to T-99 to headline? Last year he called the members. Each separately he tells them the other band-members like the idea of a reunion gig. Before they realize they take the stage and there is no way return. From that moment things start itching again.

This upcoming spring of 2015 the Best Of album named "The Various Sounds of T-99", combined with a tour along the nicest Dutch clubs (see below). For those who never got enough of them, those who want to see them again and those who where too late. Mischa says: "We look forward to this with great anticipation. We're playing in awesome venues and it's great to see our fans again. It's also exciting times ahead; our performances largely run on improvisation, and over the last year we each developed separately. For us it's as exciting as it is for the audience"
