Daniel Romano's "When I Learned Your Name" premiered through Flood Magazine

Flood Magazine premieres Daniel Romano's “When I Learned Your Name”: Daniel Romano sings like Adam Granduciel, plays guitar like a member of Thin Lizzy, and writes songs like Wilco at their power-poppiest. And if that’s not enough to hook you, the video for “When I Learned Your Name,” which is taken from next month’s Modern Pressure LP, bears more than a passing resemblance to the cover of Jesus of Cool.

Which isn’t to say that Romano doesn’t have his own thing going. “When I Learned Your Name” is as sturdy as they come, the kind of single people used to find in the couch cushions in the late-’70s. Still, it’s hardly a throwaway: “‘When I Learned Your Name’ is the story of the extraordinary rendezvous between the oppressed individual and its own true character,” Romano says. “This form—most commonly childlike and liberated—can uncover a being’s perspective of reality. We grow, sometimes rapidly, into what we never conceived ourselves to be, unhinged and stretched to the limits of our shell. This song is a musical celebration of that liberty.”
