The Vandoliers will hit festivals and play headline shows all over Europe starting this weekend

A rowdy, Texas-based alt-country outfit in the vein of bands like Jason & the Scorchers and the Old 97's, Vandoliers appeared in the late-2010s with a sound that melded gritty cowpunk with Red Dirt country and bits of Tejano flair. Vandoliers are the next wave of Texas music. The six-piece Dallas-Fort Worth group channels all that makes this vast state unique: tradition, modernity, audacity, grit, and—of course—size. 

Following the demise of his punk band, the Phuss, singer/songwriter Joshua Fleming began writing songs that took a greater influence from country music, and he formed Vandoliers in 2015. Populated by veterans of the Dallas-Fort Worth indie scene, Fleming's fellow Vandoliers included Dustin Fleming on guitar and pedal steel, Cory Graves on keys and trumpet, Guyton Sanders on drums, Travis Curry on fiddle, and Mark Moncrieff on bass. 

Vandoliers' sound is truly a tour of the many subgenres that originated in the Lone Star State, from outlaw country to Texas swing, electric blues, and even Tejano. At the same time, it’s a twist on those familiar sounds, delivered with a wink of the eye and a bang of the head. (As the Dallas Observer amusingly asserted, it's "as if Calexico and Dropkick Murphys got together for a fiesta.") It's twang and tattoos, grit and guitars, honky-tonk and horns, Tejano and Telecasters. It's Vandoliers.
