The Deep Dark Woods to play Parkenfestivalen 2021

24-08-2020

Fresh off a 2019 Juno nomination for Contemporary Roots Album Of The Year, The Deep Dark Woods have been crafting their brand of prairie psychedelics and a “loose grungy folk sound” (Paste) for over ten years. The sound is rooted in tradition, drawing inspiration from sounds out of the U.K. and Appalachia, and employing rich storytelling; these heart rending works have caught the attention of legends such as Peter Eden and Shirley Collins.

Where past albums have focused more on retelling stories of the past “Changing Faces” is raw and intimate. It is a picture of Ryan Boldt, the band’s songwriter and singer, at his most vulnerable. The stories that Boldt tells are timeless - they are stories of love found and lost, stories of grief and haunting depression, stories of hope springing forth again. Known for his deep voice, Boldt experiments with new registers on this album, floating up into a delicate falsetto that emphasizes the intimacy of these songs.

Changing Faces features a cast of musicians near and dear to the band. Kacy Anderson and Clayton Linthincum (of Kacy and Clayton) feature heavily on the album, with Clayton also assisting with arrangements. Together, the band creates a solid home for these songs, showering the songs with bursts of unbridled psychedelia. The effect is an album that requires multiple listens for its subtle intricacies and depth of emotion. But multiple listens are easy to do, because this is an album that feels utterly alive with every spin. Changing Faces will be released worldwide late 2020.

With Changing Faces The Deep Dark Woods will play Parkenfestivalen Bodø in Norway on August 21st. More dates to follow.
